Heat Alerts: Toast, Push, and Email via notify.sharpsidebaseball.com

How Heat Alerts work on SharpSideBaseball — what triggers them, how the Why string is built from the MLB Stats live feed, and how to receive them by email on mobile.

The point of SharpSideBaseball is that you don't have to stare at the terminal all day. Heat Alerts push the signal to you the moment something meaningful happens — and they now run on three channels, including email.

How alerts trigger

You arm an alert from the bell icon on any row in the Live Signals feed, or by setting custom thresholds in your alert rules. An alert fires when:

  • A market's Heat tier crosses one of your thresholds (e.g. Warm → Hot)
  • A market's implied probability moves past a custom point threshold against the daily opener
  • An open position you've logged crosses a profit-take or stop-loss percentage

Each rule lives in your account and runs against the same 30-second refresh that powers the terminal.

The three delivery channels

  1. In-app toast — A sonner toast in the corner of the page when you have the terminal open.
  2. Browser push notification — Works while the tab is open or in the background on desktop and Android.
  3. Email — Delivered from notify.sharpsidebaseball.com, the dedicated transactional subdomain we set up for this. Email is the answer to "how do I get SharpSideBaseball alerts on my iPhone without installing the PWA?" — your phone's mail app handles delivery, and you can pipe it into Apple Mail VIP rules, Gmail filters, or anywhere else you already triage push.

You can toggle any channel on or off per rule from the alerts panel.

The "Why" string

When an alert fires on an in-progress game, we don't just say "Reds ML moved." We append a plain-English Why built from the MLB Stats live feed:

"Reds have runners in scoring position with 1 out, trailing by 1 in the bottom of the 7th. Last play: Stephenson doubles to deep right."

The Why uses inning, half-inning, outs, score, runners on base, and the last completed play. It's the same string you'll see in the Live game context block of the matchup insight dialog when you click an event title — so the alert and the dialog tell a consistent story.

For pre-game alerts, the Why instead surfaces the relevant pre-game context — e.g. "Public 82% on Yankees, sharps backing Blue Jays run line" — so you immediately know whether the move is opinion-driven or news-driven.

Setting up email alerts

  1. Open Profile Settings → Notifications.
  2. Toggle Email alerts on. Confirm the address on file (or update it).
  3. Choose your default tier threshold (Warm, Hot, or Blaze).
  4. Optionally pick per-rule overrides — for example, only email me when a World Series futures contract goes Hot, but toast me on any Run Line Warm.

Whitelist notify.sharpsidebaseball.com in your mail provider so alerts never get filtered. That's the only configuration step.
